Why Chick-fil-A Chicken Minis Are So Beloved
Chick-fil-A’s Chicken Minis have developed a loyal following for good reason. Each mini sandwich is perfectly balanced with savory, crispy chicken and a sweet, fluffy roll brushed with honey butter. These little sandwiches are the epitome of breakfast comfort food, but they’re also ideal for a quick snack or party platter. And the best part? You can enjoy the flavor of Chick-fil-A at home, even on Sundays, with just a few ingredients.
Let’s get into how to make these copycat Chicken Minis using convenient store-bought ingredients that deliver that same irresistible taste.
Why Should You Make Your Own?
I know some of you may be thinking, “Why bother? Why not just buy them from the restaurant?” For one, it’s more cost effective to make your own. I can buy an entire bag of chicken nuggets and a pan of rolls for $15 or less to make a full pan of these for my family of 4. I would spend at least double if I went to the restaurant and bought them.
However, my biggest reason for making these at home is the control I have over the ingredients. The nuggets and rolls I buy have fairly clean ingredients compared to fast food. No, these are not organic, free range, sourdough, or far superior to all other foods. There is certainly room for improvement but these are a fair compromise for me as a busy mom to make a treat for my kids that’s a little healthier than its restaurant counterpart. Making these at home allows me to avoid the corn syrup, monosodium glutamate, and propylene glycol, just to name a few. We do eat at Chick-fil-A on occasion, but as a health conscious mom, I like making things at home when I can so I have better control over what goes into my kids’ bodies.
Best Places to Serve Chicken Minis
I know I already mentioned these are a great option for a kid-friendly breakfast. However, adults and kids love this mini chicken sandwiches equally for any time of day! These Chick-fil-a chicken minis would be a hit at Super Bowl parties, for brunch gatherings, kids’ birthday parties, at potlucks, or just as an appetizer. I’m even adding them to my Christmas morning breakfast menu this year! There are so many different places you could use this recipe and I love how versatile these Chick-fil-a chicken minis are.

Ingredients to Make Copycat Chick-fil-A Chicken Minis
- Frozen Lightly Breaded Chicken Nuggets: I personally love the Just Bare Lightly Breaded Nuggets from Costco!
- Small Frozen Dinner Rolls: Sister Schubert’s work well but anything similar in size/shape is fine
- Honey Butter: You can buy honey butter and melt it, but I make my own and it’s super simple. You just need 3 tablespoons of melted butter mixed with 1 tablespoon of honey
Directions to Make Copycat Chick-fil-A Chicken Minis
- Cook the Nuggets: I like to use my air fryer to cook the nuggets so I can bake the rolls in my oven at the same time. Follow the directions on the back of the bag to cook your nuggets until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Warm the Rolls: While the nuggets are cooking, place your Sister Schubert’s rolls on a separate baking sheet. Bake them according to package directions (often around 5-10 minutes) until they are soft and warmed through. These rolls have that perfect soft texture similar to Chick-fil-A’s minis, and they’ll be ready just in time for assembling.
- Make the Honey Butter: In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter and honey until smooth. Once the rolls are done, brush each one generously with the honey butter for that signature Chick-fil-A taste.
- Assemble the Chicken Minis: Once the rolls have cooled just slightly, use a knife to slice each roll in half horizontally. Place a baked chicken nugget inside each roll. Press gently to close, so the nugget sits snugly inside the roll. For extra flavor, you can add another brush of honey butter to the tops of the rolls.
- Serve and Enjoy! Your copycat Chick-fil-A Chicken Minis are ready to serve! They’re best enjoyed warm, so dig in immediately or keep them covered in foil until you’re ready to eat. Serve with hash browns, fresh fruit, or even a side of Chick-fil-A sauce or honey mustard for dipping.
